The mission of Iraq in the United Nations

Iraq is a founding member of the United Nations and today – more than ever  – remains dedicated to the very principles of which the organization was established. Nationwide elections and return to self-rule have heralded the dawn of the era in Iraq. Feelings of fear and trepidation, once pervasive in my country, have now been replaced by those of determination and hope. The United Nations has been and remains a guiding force in my country’s rapid progression toward stability and democratic governance. Iraq is deeply committed to working with the international community to promote peace and security, to foster international cooperation in solving economic, social and humanitarian problems and to promote culture and respect for human rights throughout the world.
